Your account¶
Your account holds who you are, the ways into the Portal, and the instances that you paid for.
The avatar at the top right of the window opens the account menu. It holds My profile, Security and Log out.
Your profile¶
My profile opens the profile editor. It holds:
your full name;
your birth date;
your avatar, which you upload as a picture file;
the notes field, for anything that you want to keep on the account.
Press the save button at the end of the form. Your login and your e-mail address are set at registration, and the editor does not change them. Ask support to change an e-mail address. See Support.
Security¶
Security lists the ways into this account, under the heading Ways in. Each way is set or not set:
Way in |
What it means |
|---|---|
Password |
A password reaches the account. An account that was made with a one-time code, or with Google or Apple, has none until you set one. |
Signing in with Google reaches this account. Sign in with Google once to attach it. |
|
Apple |
Signing in with Apple reaches this account. Sign in with Apple once to attach it. |
Directory |
Your directory password reaches this account. The administrator of this Portal sets this up, and the row appears only where it is in use. |
An account can hold more than one way in. A second one is useful: it gets you back in when the first one fails.
Change your password¶
The Password card on the Security screen leads to the password screen. The screen asks two things.
First, prove who you are. Type your current password. If you have none, or you forgot it, press Send a code. The Portal sends a one-time code to the e-mail address of the account, and the code goes in the same field.
Second, choose the new password. Type it twice. Use twelve characters or more, and use one that you use nowhere else. Length beats cleverness.
Press the save button. The screen says if the change did not go through. Check the current password, and try again.
Sign out¶
Log out in the account menu ends the session in this browser. It changes nothing on your instances: the machines go on running, and the subscriptions go on being charged.
To stop paying, cancel the subscription. See End an instance.
