Billing¶
Billing shows what this account paid, and where to change how it pays. Open it from the left side of the window, or from the button in the header of the Products screen.
Payment settings¶
Payment settings opens the Stripe screens in a new tab. Stripe holds the money side of the account, so these screens are where you:
change the card;
change the billing address and the tax details;
read and download the invoices;
see the subscriptions and their next charge.
The Portal never sees the card number. Stripe keeps it.
Invoices¶
The screen lists the invoices under the button. Each row gives the date, the amount and the state. Invoice at the right opens the document at Stripe.
An invoice is in one of these states:
State |
What it means |
|---|---|
paid |
Stripe took the money. |
open |
The invoice is issued, and it is not paid yet. |
draft |
Stripe has not issued the invoice yet. |
void |
The invoice was cancelled. You owe nothing on it. |
uncollectible |
Stripe gave up on collecting it. Write to support. |
An account with free plans only shows Nothing has been charged yet. A new paid plan shows its first invoice after the first billing period.
The billing period¶
Stripe charges the card once each billing period. The row on the Products screen gives the date of the next charge, after the word Renews.
The period is a month or a year. The plan decides which, and Payment settings shows it.
When a payment fails¶
Stripe tells the Portal when it cannot take the money. The row then shows Payment failed.
The instance goes on running. Stripe tries the card again over some days.
Open Billing.
Press Payment settings.
Put a card that works into the Stripe screens.
Stripe takes the money at the next try, and the row shows Ready again. An account that never pays loses the instance: the subscription ends, and the Portal destroys the machine.
The screens after a checkout¶
Stripe sends you back to the Portal after a payment. The screen that you land on says one of these:
The screen says |
What it means |
|---|---|
Payment confirmed |
Stripe took the money, and the Portal is building the machine. |
Waiting for your bank |
The payment method needs some minutes. The screen refreshes itself. |
Your product is ready |
The machine is built, and it waits for you. |
Checkout cancelled |
You left Stripe without paying. Nothing was charged. |
Payment went through, setup did not |
Stripe took the money, and the build failed. Do not buy the plan again. Write to support, which can finish it from your subscription. |
We couldn’t confirm this checkout |
The link back from Stripe does not carry enough to confirm the payment. Open Products, which shows the true state. |
We couldn’t reach the payment service |
The Portal could not ask Stripe. Open Products in some minutes. |
